Last night, I had the opportunity to check out Joey Janela’s LA Confidential, which was hosted by GCW at the Hi Hat in Los Angeles, and the final match of the night was one for the ages. The main event featured GCW champ Nick Gage taking on none other than David Arquette (yes, you read that right – Deputy Dewey himself) in a Death Match that resulted in the actor having to rush out of the ring right after the bout was finished due to the fact that he somehow got punctured in the jugular area during a spot with light tubes. Arquette looked even worse at the end of LA Confidential than he did during the first two Scream movies, but like the pro he is, he somehow managed to finish the match while holding his hand over his throat at the same time.
I was sitting only a few rows away from all the grisly action at GCW’s LA Confidential show last night, so I thought a few horror fans might be interested to see Arquette in action, as the former WCW Champion put up a helluva fight after taking on chair shots, going through wood boards, and taking multiple hits from the now infamous light tubes. I’ve gone ahead and included a few of the videos below, including the moment where you can see everything goes south in the match between Gage and Arquette, with David coming away from the tube shot furiously grasping at his neck area.
But do consider this a warning – a lot of the following videos are pretty gnarly, including one spot where Gage viciously took a pizza cutter to Arquette’s forehead, leaving him a bloodied, battered mess. Regardless of the outcome though, last night David proved himself to be an incredible performer in the squared circle, willing to finish out the match despite needing immediate medical attention. It’s no secret around these parts that I’ve been a fan of his work in the horror genre for over two decades, but last night David Arquette proved himself to be just as much of a badass in real-life as he fought his way through a truly brutal and gruesome Death Match that is easily one of the most unbelievable professional wrestling bouts I’ve ever experienced in person.
