The remake of Carrie picked up steam earlier this year and with Chloe Moretz now signed on to play Carrie White, an official release date has been set.Coming Soon reports that Carrie will hit theaters a little less than one year from now on March 15, 2013.
The film will be directed by Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) and is expected to begin shooting in the coming months. The script was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and is said to more closely follow Stephen King's book than De Palma's film adaptation.
It was previously revealed that Peirce and MGM/Screen Gems want a high-profile actress to play Carrie’s mother and are looking at Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore. We should have additional casting announcements in the very near future.
Stephen King originally released Carrie in 1974. The Brian De Palma version followed in 1976 and there was also a sequel in 1999 and a TV remake in 2002.
