When World War Z's release date had been moved from this December to June 2013, we thought it was because Paramount was confident in the movie holding its own against other big summer movies. It turns out that significant rewrites and reshoots are required.
Damon Lindelof has been hired to to rewrite part of the script, with reshoots taking place later this year. Lindelof most recently co-wrote Prometheus and is involved with the latest Star Trek sequel. According to THR, the focus of the writing changes and reshoots will be the movie's third act. We reported last week that reshoots are currently taking place in Budapest, but reshoots based on Lindelof's changes are planned for this fall.
Based on the Max Brooks novel, World War Z is directed by Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace) and stars Brad Pitt, Mireille Enos, Matthew Fox, and James Badge. The movie is scheduled for release on June 21st, 2013:
“World War Z tells the story of the world’s desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts ‘as told to the author’ by various characters around the world. A Chinese doctor encounters one of the earliest zombie cases at a time when the Chinese government is ruthlessly suppressing any information about the outbreak that will soon spread across the globe. The tale then follows the outbreak via testimony of smugglers, intelligence officials, military personnel and many others who struggle to defeat the zombie menace.”
