Daily Dead readers are no stranger to the horror comic book series Black Diamond. "A horrifying nordic thriller that’s equal parts Hitchcock and The Wicker Man," the comic book series from writer and creator Brendan Columbus and PANICK Entertainment asks readers the chilling question of how far they would go to save their own child from a sacrificial cult. Last year, Derek interviewed Columbus about the comic book series and gave readers a preview of the first issue, and we're very excited to hear that a film adaptation is moving forward with FANGORIA Studios!
Per FANGORIA, Ernest Dickerson will direct and executive produce the film, with Brendan Columbus set to write the screenplay. Maybe best known by our readers for directing Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Dickerson has also been an incredible director across some of your favorite TV shows, including directing some of The Walking Dead's best episodes. Producers for the Black Diamond film include Tara Ansley, Abhi Goel, and Armen Aghaeian for FANGORIA Studios, with Adam Schlagman, Kris Longo, and Brendan Columbus producing for PANICK Studios, and Rose Geddes and Dickerson as executive producers. Casting is said to be revealed later this year, and Dickerson had the following to say about taking this adaptation on as his latest directorial project:
“Black Diamond immediately grabbed me because its horror is rooted in impossible human choices... It taps into parental fear, morality, isolation, and survival in a way that is so unsettling and emotionally real. That combination will make for a very suspenseful and exciting cinematic experience.”
Black Diamond Synopsis: "When a family ski trip to Norway devolves into the cult kidnapping of their son - Owen and Victoria Howard will do anything to get him back, even if it means compromising everything they believe in. Tasked by the cult to find a replacement sacrifice, the Howards must breach their morals and their sanity to steal another child. With an impending deadline and their son's life in the balance - the law closing and time running out, how far will the Howard’s go to save their son? And who will they have to kill to do it?"
