Although not a surprise, given the fact that a new showrunner was already hired for future True Blood development, HBO has officially announced that True Blood has been renewed for a sixth season. While no details have been released, it is very likely that True Blood Season 6 will be another 12-episode order that will premiere in June 2013.

True Blood co-executive Mark Hudis will take over for Alan Ball as showrunner for the upcoming season. It was previously announced that Alan Ball will remain on the show as an executive producer and will consult on the creative direction of the series.

While True Blood Season 5 is down slightly from its ratings last year, its newest episode still brougt in 4.66 million viewers and was this past Sunday's highest rated show on cable. A True Blood panel will be taking place at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and similar to last year, we'll have some new details on what you can expect from the next season.
