According to the New York Post, Javier Bardem has officially signed on to play gunglinger Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower series. After months of casting and development news, it looks like the first film is finally moving forward. This is a huge undertaking for Universal, Ron Howard, and Javier Bardem, as it will include three films and a TV series between the films to tie everything together.
The NY Post claims that "Bardem has signed on to the first movie and the miniseries, but the intention is that he will star in all three movies and each of the TV series".
Ron Howard is set to direct the first film and at least some of the TV series. There are no other casting announcements or a release date a this time, but with Bardem locked in, there should be plenty of new developments to report on for the foreseeable future.
