This casting news has us really interested in the upcoming Frankenstein movie from Fox. Daniel Radcliffe was first to join the project in the role of Igor and now it's being reported that James McAvoy will play the role of Victor Frankenstein.

Paul McGuigan (Lucky Number Slevin) was brought on last year to direct the film from a script written by Max Landis (Chronicle) that puts the focus on Frankenstein’s assistant. The movie is expected to put a new spin on the Frankenstein story, as opposed to directly following the book, and we previously learned that that the story will be more of a sci-fi take on the material.

An interesting item to note is that Deadline lists Frankenstein's name in the movie as "Victor Von Frankenstein," which Hammer fans will recognize as the name given to Peter Cushing's version of the infamous character.

Production was expected to begin this fall, so we should have more details and casting news in the coming months. A release date is currently set for October 17th, 2014.
