We're back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today's feature includes news on the latest episode of Ghost Trek, an announcement for William Pattison's new novel, Psychotic State, DVD release details for The Colony, a clip from Hitchhiker Massacre, and much more:

Details on Psychotic State: “The plot of Psychotic State tells the story of David Coleman, a bipolar twenty-six year old man who is one of those people that the world likes to pick on. David is bullied and abused by everyone around him, including his adopted father. When David gets fired from his job after a run in with a couple bullies he loses his medical and stops taking his medication. This causes David to go into a psychotic state and in a twisted idea of justice he decides that it is time for him to take out all his bullies and abusers. The result is a killing spree and ends with a bloodbath that will be a must read for horror fans.

Cult icon Friday the 13th author William Pattison, aka Eric Morse faces personal demons and creates the next great horror novel with Psychotic State.

The author of The Camp Crystal Lake Novels (Mother’s Day, Jason’s Curse, The Carnival, and Road Trip (Berkley Books 1994) ) and the web released final novel in the series (The Mask of Jason Voorhees (2010)) is back, but this time he is leaving Camp Crystal Lake for different pastures with his current book project, Psychotic State.

This novel is a novelization of the upcoming motion picture of the same name and directed by William’s co-host, Derek Young, on his popular internet radio show, The Wolf Pack Podcast. William is also to be credited on the film as co-writer.

“Writing this novel has brought up a lot of demons for me.” William Pattison, aka Eric Morse admitted. “When I was young I was bullied constantly by my peers. It was incessant and I have to admit that it hasn’t changed that much in my adult years. After returning to the horror community after I found that my books have found an after life with fans I have seen and been treated to brutality by a large number of my peers in this community. We call them internet trolls, but they are the same bullies I grew up with, just now older and using the computer and other technology to tear people down to make themselves feel superior. It is honestly one of the things that is bringing our community down and causing people to turn their backs to it.

Even though Psychotic State is written as a gory slasher novel I hope people can see the ant-bullying message that this morality tale presents, that the cycle of pain and abuse needs to end and that we as humans need to stop trying to feel superior and show our fellow humans respect and honor. The thing is that even a person who is good at heart can be pushed into doing horrid things if society takes things too far and tries to knock them down. Sometimes nice guys don’t finish last. Sometimes they get even.”

The book will be released in 2014.”

M is for Monoxide Details: “With the Video-On-Demand release of Sweet Home Films’ horror anthology starring Lloyd Kaufman, HORROR HOUSE, on October 1st through Maxim Media, the team over at SHF has certainly been busy.

The production company just released their entry for this year’s ABC’s of Death Part 2 competition, whereby filmmakers submit short films of up to three minutes based around the letter ‘M.’ Evan Marlowe, the film’s director, chose ‘Monoxide’ as his M word. Says Evan, “We tossed around some ideas for about a month, until one day commuting to work staring at the car in front of me, the concept came to me. What if a man tries to kill his wife with carbon monoxide by running a long tube from the garage to the bedroom?”

The short film stars Lisa Goodman who plays the Gypsy in Horror House, and Peter Mandarino, who is seen running down an alley half naked in the Incendiary campaign video. In order for the film to be a finalist it needs over 1,000 Facebook likes on the ABCs of Death page.”

Ghost Trek: Goomba Body Snatchers Mortuary Lockdown (and Panel Show) Release Details: “Paranormal research with an emphasis on bad taste is back!

From Michael Plumides, Producer of Nightbreed: Director's Cut (Shout!Factory 2014) comes Ghost Trek, an uncensored supernatural-comic–horror series based on a paranormal reality show. Ghost Trek follows the Paranormal Underworld Detective Society (PUDS) as they investigate the haunts across the US and abroad between tanning beds, babes, body-building, and bong hits – all the while risking life and limb capturing the undead and unexplained on video.

We've launched Ghost Trek on www.chill.com - the all-new episode, Ghost Trek: Goomba Body Snatchers Mortuary Lockdown (and Panel Show) drop[s] October 21st featuring the last performance of America's sweetheart, Gia Allemand, The Bachelor star who died of a tragic suicide in August of 2013.

The Ghost Trek series is not a cheap "parody" of paranormal reality shows, Admittedly, Ghost Trek pokes fun at all the ghost hunting programs (to the point where some people we target have blocked us on Twitter) but it's much more than that. The Ghost Trek series is dark, witty, bombastic bunch of buffoonery written and directed by Michael Plumides; a high-brow meets low-brow satirical indictment of reality TV in general.

In the Goomba Body Snatchers episode, the Ghost Trek fans are lined up around the block at the local college to attend a panel show and live broadcast hosted by Rick Weiner (Tim Ross) of the Real Divorcees of Los Angeles County and he really has Zeke, Jules, and Scary Carrie under the microscope. Harvey Goldman (Michael Plumides) nixes Shawna's attempts to get Zeke fired and sends her to Cabo to stay at his condo. Clairvoyant Guy Swisher visits via satellite from the set of Psychic Brats. Scary Carrie continues her unrelenting haze of the newbie, Jules Partridge. Zeke is called out about his tryst with Svetlana on live TV. 'The Bomb' gets an unexpected injury at the 'Juggalos' by Tila Tequila. Joey 'Mayhem' is accidentally dosed with a heaping helping of mushroom-laced omelets right before lockdown. The Gambini & Sons Mortuary is haunted by a high profile bondage photographer and notorious mob enforcer – both dismembered and sold to biomed companies by a mad junkie doctor. Weasel and Ray-Ray bang their heads in a drug-fueled musical number. This episode lampoons everything from Goodfellas to Ghost Adventures - from Mapplethorpe to mad doctors - from Real Housewives to George Romero - from Talking Dead to teen icons. Sound crazy? It is. Very.

The ensemble cast of Goomba Body Snatchers stars the late Gia Allemand in her final role, Michael Melendez (Turning Home), Jonny Fairplay (Survivor), Julia Bullock (X-Factor), Christy Johnson (Mortuary), Disco Inferno (WCW), and Kevin Johnson (Prisoners), with appearances by Colt Cabana (WWE), Super model Cora Deitz, and Brett Gentile (Seeking Justice). The newest episode is written and directed by Michael G. Plumides, Jr., with additional material directed by Robert Filion, and produced by Plumides, Chris Pittman, Robert Filion, and Bill Walker. Executive Producers are Pittman, Plumides and Anne Saunders.

First Clip from Hitchhiker Massacre: “All these hitchhikers want to do is have a good time. They want to party and have fun! But, a madman is stalking the dusty backroads of Northern California. This killer has an eye for gorgeous women. His intent is both a cold-blooded and a culinary one, and this murderer has orders to fill and hitchhikers are on the top of the menu.

Director James L. Bills (Refuge of Last Resort) has just completed production on the ‘80s grindhouse horror title Hitchhiker Massacre. This film promises to bring sexy hitchhikers off of deserted roadways and into back alley kitchens. Hitchhiker Massacre was produced by Jason Horton (Monsters in the Woods, Edges of Darkness). Also, the film stars Playboy Playmate Veronica LaVery, Spanish songstress Stephanie Gerard, David Carradine’s daughter – Calista Carradine, Ely LaMay, John Barrymore and Rocky Christopher.

Production company Retrofocus Pictures has just released the first clip for the film and viewers will quickly recognize the grindhouse feel and throwback to ‘80s slasher films of the past. Being a hitchhiker is a risky undertaking in this slasher film.”
