Those who are naughty better watch out in Krampus, an upcoming horror-comedy from Michael Dougherty, the writer/director of Trick ’r Treat. Due out next December, Dougherty's sophomore effort will follow a creature from Alpine folklore who snacks on misbehaving children during Christmastime, and we've received three animated Krampus holiday cards from Legendary that tease the atmosphere of the film.
"Filmmaker Michael Dougherty provides horror fans a holiday present - an early glimpse into his dark Yuletide horror film ‘Krampus’, scheduled for release holiday season 2015. As Christmas trees burn and shadows fall, this set of three twisted “Krampus Cards" showcase the darker side of the holiday and provide a fun, shareable look at Michael’s subversive vision for the film.
So, enjoy the cards and have a wonderful holiday season from Legendary Pictures, Michael Dougherty and Krampus.
About KRAMPUS
Based on the ancient legend of a pagan demon who punishes the wicked, Legendary Pictures’ KRAMPUS, a twisted horror comedy set during the holidays, is written and directed by Michael Dougherty (Trick ’r Treat). Co-written by Todd Casey and Zach Shields and produced by Legendary’s Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Alex Garcia, this darkly festive tale of a yuletide ghoul will be released by Universal Pictures."
A Legendary film, Krampus is slated for a December 4th, 2015 release from Universal. It was recently revealed that Allison Tolman (FX’s Fargo) and Emjay Anthony (Chef) are set to star in Krampus. The duo will play a mother and son who must defend their home from the malevolent monster, with Anthony in particular having to dig deep in a heroic role.
Dougherty's film is the second Krampus-based Christmas horror movie to recently move forward in development, as we reported earlier this year that writer/director Kevin Smith’s Anti-Claus, also a horror-comedy revolving around the naughty children-consuming Krampus, is in the works. Horror hounds who’ve been waiting for films about the Krampus (one thing you definitely don’t want coming down your chimney on Christmas Eve) are in for two takes on this type of terror, with Dougherty's Krampus looking to be the first one to see light on the big screen.
It’s also worth noting that Legendary is the same studio Michael Dougherty is working with to make a sequel to his cult hit, Trick ’r Treat. We’ll keep Daily Dead readers updated on Krampus as more announcements are made.
