While being interviewed about the new season of Burn Notice, Bruce Campbell talked briefly about the upcoming remake of The Evil Dead. There isn't anything surprising about his comments, but he confirms previous reports that there is no Ash character in the film and talks about their reason for remaking the movie:

"We are going to remake it, the original, and people are a little iffy about that. We wanted to remake a movie that would have better effects... we're better at telling stories now... There's no Ash character in it... that pisses people off... we didn't want to have the direct comparison... I wouldn't want to put an actor in that position."

Bruce also downplays previous comments about him having a cameo role in the film, saying "I don't know... [maybe] the old farmer saying 'how's it going?'... I don't know..."

Here is the recently released plot synopsis: “Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.”

Fede Alvarez is directing the remake and wrote the original script, along with Rodo Sayagues. Back in July, it was announced that Diablo Cody had been hired to polish up the script. Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell are producing.
