In her 4.5-star Fantasia review, Heather Wixson wrote that Bryan Bertino's The Dark and the Wicked is a "shockingly bleak and horrifying exploration of grief and faith," and following its recent release on VOD and digital platforms, RLJE Films will bring the movie's nightmarish imagery to Blu-ray and DVD on December 15th... just in time for the holidays.

Press Release: LOS ANGELES (November 9, 2020) – RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, along with Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, will release the horror film THE DARK AND THE WICKED on December 15, 2020 on DVD and Blu-ray. RLJE Films will release the film on DVD for an SRP of $27.97 and on Blu-ray for an SRP of $28.96.

Written and directed by Bryan Bertino (The Strangers), the film stars Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water), Michael Abbott Jr. (Mud) and Xander Berkeley (“The Walking Dead”).

In THE DARK AND THE WICKED, on a secluded farm, a man is bedridden and fighting through his final breaths while his wife slowly succumbs to overwhelming grief. Siblings Louise (Marin Ireland) and Michael (Michael Abbott Jr.) return home to help, but it doesn’t take long for them to see that something’s wrong with mom—something more than her heavy sorrow. Gradually, they begin to suffer a darkness similar to their mother’s, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that an evil entity is taking over their family.

THE DARK AND THE WICKED DVD and Blu-ray include the following bonus feature:

  • Fantasia Q&A with Marin Ireland and Michael Abbott Jr.

  • Derek Anderson
About the Author - Derek Anderson

Raised on a steady diet of R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps books and Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Derek has been fascinated with fear since he first saw ForeverWare being used on an episode of Eerie, Indiana.

When he’s not writing about horror as the Senior News Reporter for Daily Dead, Derek can be found daydreaming about the Santa Carla Boardwalk from The Lost Boys or reading Stephen King and Brian Keene novels.
