An underground bunker could either be a sanctuary or a prison in the recently revealed first trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, the follow-up (but not direct sequel) to 2008's found footage creature feature Cloverfield.

Revealed last night at screenings for 13 Hours, the debut trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane officially pulls the curtain on what has been something of a secret project at JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Productions.

Set in an underground shelter while the world may or may not be going to hell outside the locked door, 10 Cloverfield Lane looks like it takes place in the same world as Matt Reeves' Cloverfield.

To help point speculations in the right direction, Abrams had this to say to Collider:

“The idea came up a long time ago during production. We wanted to make it a blood relative of Cloverfield. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

Viewers won't have to wait long to see 10 Cloverfield Lane, as the film hits theaters and IMAX on March 11th from Paramount Pictures. Produced by Abrams and directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a screenplay by Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken, 10 Cloverfield Lane stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher Jr. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more details.
