When it was announced that Rick Grimes would be leaving The Walking Dead TV series, it was also revealed that his story would continue in The Walking Dead movies, and with the AMC series dominating Hall H today at Comic-Con, a new teaser video for the first untitled Walking Dead movie was revealed, teasing Rick Grimes' return at a theater near you.
You can watch the teaser video for The Walking Dead movie below. Although it doesn't feature footage from the actual movie, it does promise the return of Rick Grimes "only in theaters," and you may recognize what looks to be the helicopter that took Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh) and Rick flying towards a city skyline (if you've read the comic book series, then you know that the city is likely the Commonwealth, where society is existing on an entirely different level in the living dead apocalypse).
Based on the video, it looks like Universal Pictures, Skybound, and AMC will be teaming up to bring The Walking Dead movie to theaters.
Additional casting and a release date have yet to be announced, but last November it was announced that Scott M. Gimple would be writing The Walking Dead movie, with a trilogy of films being planned. Production on the first movie is slated to start this year. Here's what Gimple previously told Entertainment Weekly about the films:
"We are talking about a trilogy for this Rick Grimes story. It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the only Rick Grimes stories we’re ever going to tell, and also they’re probably not going to be the only movies that we tell. The Rick Grimes story, of course, is the biggest thing that we’re doing right off the bat, but we’re going to be doing a number of different Walking Dead things over the next few years. A universe of stuff."
