Jim Fletcher, the award-winning creative director behind DC Uniformz, the DC Black and White statue series, and many other beloved projects, is getting ready to release an art book and trading card series with Clover Press: The Flippitoons Field Guide of Fantastical Faces! The book will be crowdfunded via Kickstarter sometime after SDCC, but the backerkit prelaunch page is live now.

Fletcher is at San Diego Comic-Con right now with holographic sticker packs and the prototype of a brand-new mask for the frightening Frankenstein-inspired Flippitoons creatures called "Monsterian & Broot"! We're thrilled to exclusively share a video reveal of the mask, along with a quote from Jim Fletcher.

Fliipimask: A most innovative curio from The Artistic Alchemist & acclaimed Oddibiologist James Fletcher: Two distinct faces in one mask!

“Never before could one masquerade as two other creatures by means of only one mask - now that all changes. Gaze in the mirror & behold : with one turn of the mask the face of one fantastical creature gazes back at you, yet turn the mask again & regard how a second creature now stares through your eyes!” - Jim Fletcher

At SDCC and want to see the mask in person? Make sure to stop by Jim Fletcher's booth #1735!

From the Press Release: Throughout his award-winning career creative director and comic industry veteran Jim Fletcher has been a driving force behind countless fan-favorite collectibles. In his time with the DC Direct brand, Fletcher created beloved lines including DC Ame-Comi Statues, DC Uniformz, DC Core; co-created DC Bombshells and DC Artist’s Alley; and led the development of the long-running Batman Black and White statue series. Now, he’s teaming up with Clover Press to introduce fans to a brand new world of his interdimensional Flippitoons with a gorgeous 200 page 10” X 10” deluxe hardcover art book [...]

“Flippitoons are creatures that I discovered one day while doodling,” explains Fletcher. “One sketch mysteriously tumbled off my desk and glided to the floor, seemingly flipping over of its own accord as it fell. As I attempted to pick it up, the image kept turning over showing me the surprise potential of its other half! I soon realized that this was no coincidence, and a multitude of these monsters were waiting to be discovered, just beyond our reality. That was when I realized that the field of Oddibiology, or the study of odd things,  was where I wanted, no, needed to be! This guidebook will be my first attempt to catalogue the Flippitoons, at least the ones I have seen so far, and I hope you will have a fliptastic time exploring its pages!”

In the world of Flippitoons reality is flipped on its head. Jim S. Fletcher, (the S is silent) holds the highest degree in the dubious field of Oddibiology, and has been diligently studying and cataloging Flippitoons. His observations on these elusive beings will soon be published in a journal that chronicles his flippy findings. The Flippitoons Field Guide of Fantastical Faces takes the viewer into the Flippi-verse of phenomenal creatures and their inverse personalities. When you turn the book over you will find faces of another kind wrongside up, or rightside down.

The main character illustrations are accompanied by some quick lines of rhyming prose that can be read no matter which way you flip the book. Along with this ‘Odditome’ Fletcher and his research team have created some handy 2.5" x 3.5" trading cards to identify these strange beings out in the wild. The fearsome and funny Flippitoons characters are also featured in their own unique 30-45 second Flippimations, now in social media with original music composed by Fletcher to reflect each creature’s personality.

“When Jim first approached me, showing me these creatures he found, I thought he was crazy. Turned out I was right!” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz. “While we were at DC together, Jim created or co-created some of the most successful lines of DC Direct toys in their history, inspiring new and popular comic DC universes like DC AMI-COMI GIRLS and DC BOMBSHELLS. He’s absolutely bonkers, and you’ll see that when you peruse this book.”
