The Kitchen Sink officially has a director. Early last year, Jonah Hill was circling this project as his first directorial effort, but Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection) now has the job. This film is described as a genre mashup that involves vampires, humans, and zombies teaming up to save their town from an alien invasion.

This project is set up at Sony Pictures and we have no other details on the production at this time. The Kitchen Sink was on the 2010 Black List, which recognizes top unproduced scripts. It was written by Oren Uziel, and if that name sounds familiar, he was recently announced as the writer for the upcoming theatrical reboot of Mortal Kombat.

Previously, the film had been pitched as The Breakfast Club meets Zombieland. Matt Tolmach was responsible for acquiring the script and talked about what we can expect when he picked it up at the beginning of 2011:

“It’s more in the spirit of The Breakfast Club than anything, but you get an idea of the title in an early scene where two kids are running from zombies. Those zombies suddenly are attacked by vampires. Just when they are all facing off, there’s a bright light overhead. You realize the aliens have landed and these groups have to band together, suppress the urge to kill each other, and it becomes thematically the enemy of my enemy is my friend. That makes it different than your usual zombie, vampire, or alien movie."
