*Updated with character details* It was recently announced that Universal teamed up with Blumhouse Productions for big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s Gramma. The movie is officially titled Mercy and we've been reporting on a number of actors joining the project. Fans of American Horror Story will be happy to learn that the latest addition to the cast is Dylan McDermott.

According to Shock Till You Drop, McDermott mentioned that he's appearing in the movie during a recent call to discuss American Horror Story: Aslyum. At this time, it hasn't been revealed what character he's playing, but we'll update this story when more information is released.

*Update* It has been revealed that McDermott "will play a man who long ago had a relationship with the mother and still has feelings for her, even though he is now married." via THR

Dylan McDermott will be joining previously announced cast members Joel Courtney (Super 8), Chandler Riggs (Carl on The Walking Dead) and Frances O’Connor. The movie will be directed by Peter Cornwell (The Haunting in Connecticut) from a script written by Matt Greenberg (1408).

Gramma was first published in Weirdbook magazine and was part of 1985′s Skeleton Crew. The story “follows two young boys who go with their single mother to take care of their elderly, senile grandmother named Mercy, only to discover that she’s a witch who made a pact with a dark force many years before.”

Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions was recently involved with Paranormal Activity 4, as well as Sinister and The Lords of Salem. They signed a three year first-look deal with Universal who hopes to reproduce the same success that other studios have seen with low budget horror productions.
