Vulture has more Alien prequel casting news, this time suggesting that Fox is pushing Charlize Theron for the lead role over director Ridley Scott's first choice of Noomi Rapace (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo). Theron is expected to receive the latest script next week and make a decision shortly.

While Vulture had previously reported Alien prequel rumors that were confirmed as outdated or false in the past, it makes sense that the delay in this film moving forward is about finding the right cast. While Rapace is the top choice and would be an excellent addition, I don't think anyone is doubting Charlize Theron's acting ability. If casting her means we see Ridley Scott direct a new Alien movie and it helps the film become successful enough to spawn sequels, I'm all for it. I don't want to see too much back and forth result in Ridley Scott leaving and a messy production like we saw on Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
