For today’s “From Streams to Screams” list, we’re turning our attention to the dark side and living deliciously with this collection of 23 films that are currently streaming that celebrate witches, demons, devils, and all kinds of occult-themed offerings perfect to get you ready for All Hallows’ Eve. Also, a special shout-out to FilmStruck for giving Ken Russell’s The Devils a digital home this year, and in terms of recent horror, both Satan’s Slaves and Pyewacket are very much worth your time.

So, if you’re looking for some horror that dabbles in the dark arts this October, this collection of streaming titles should undoubtedly give you some great viewing options throughout the rest of October.

In medieval Europe, crusading knights massacre a village full of suspected devil worshippers and build a large gothic church above the cursed remains. But when its sealed crypt is accidentally reopened, a group of people trapped inside the church become possessed by the fury of the damned.

Harry Angel has a new case, to find a man called Johnny Favourite. Except things aren't quite that simple, and Johnny doesn't want to be found. Let's just say that, amongst the period detail and beautiful scenery, it all gets really, really nasty.  

The House of the Devil (Available on Shudder)

A man lures a babysitter to a house with an unusually large sum of money.

The Devils (Available on FilmStruck)

Starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, this Ken Russell film is an account of the apparent demoniacal possession of the 17th-century nuns of Loudun, France. Reed plays Father Urbain Grandier, a local religious leader who is left in charge of Loudun upon the death of the Governor. Loudun is a stronghold that needs to be dismantled in the eyes of King Louis XIII (Graham Armitage) and his advisors. Grandier resists these plans, but his leadership is questioned by Sister Jeanne (Redgrave), a disfigured nun who in secret lusts after the priest. Accusations of possession and witchcraft result from Sister Jeanne’s jealousy and these charges threaten to bring the entire town down in flames.

A bored suburban housewife gets mixed up in witchcraft and murder in this grimy, close-quarters horror movie from legendary zombie filmmaker George A. Romero.

Keanu Reeves stars as a young attorney recruited to the firm of a charismatic lawyer, whose strange behavior gradually reveals a sinister intent.

A witchfinder questions his duties in this stark, unsettling 18th-century set horror.

Archbishop Mosley assigns Father Michael to a church in New Orleans which was the site of throat-slashing murders of two priests two years earlier.  

The Lords of Salem (Available on Shudder)

Heidi (Sheri Moon Zombie), a radio DJ from Salem, is plagued by bizarre nightmares of vengeful witches after playing a mysterious record by a group known as The Lords. When the record becomes a huge hit, Heidi and her colleagues receive tickets for the band’s next gig, but upon arrival find that the show goes beyond anything they could have imagined.  

The Initiation of Sarah (1978) (Available on Amazon Prime)

A young freshman college girl joins a sorority, so that she may fit in with the rest of the kids. There's one problem, the sorority she joins is run by a witch who knows that Sarah has supernatural powers. The witch encourages Sarah to use her latent psychic powers to get revenge on her rivals.
