If you looked out your window and saw Godzilla looking back at you, then you might think you had way too much to drink the night before, or that you're still dreaming, or that the apocalypse is underway, but a new hotel opening in Tokyo will give guests the chance to see the radioactive reptile without thinking they're experiencing one or all of the above.
A massive Godzilla head replica based on the creature's appearance in 1992's Godzilla vs. Mothra is being built on a terrance adjacent to the Hotel Gracery in Shinjuku, Tokyo, which opens in April and will offer a Godzilla Room for guests to stay in that includes a statue of Godzilla, pictures of the giant reptile, and even a replica of the creature's monstrous hand, as well as two Godzilla View Rooms that give guests a great look at the Godzilla head replica. If you're a creature-feature-loving couple looking to honeymoon in Japan, make your reservations now.
Originally revealed by The Good, The Bad, and Godzilla late last year, new details on the Godzilla head and hotel experiences have recently surfaced. According to Kotaku, the Hotel Gracery, which opens for business beginning April 24th, will have the Godzilla Room available for $334 per day during the week and $417 on the weekends. The two Godzilla Rooms, meanwhile, are priced at $125 per night. To learn more about making a reservation, visit:
Weighing in at 80 tons and standing 39-feet high, the Godzilla head statue will be visible not only from the special hotel rooms, but also from the Shinjuku-Yasukuni Street below. The height of the eighth-floor terrance housing the head in the under-construction 31-floor Shinjuku Toho Building is approximately 170 feet, so to passersby on the ground, it will appear as though an actual-size Godzilla is peering over the skyline at fresh prey.
Built of fiberglass and concrete, the Godzilla head will be revealed on April 15th. Both the Hotel Gracery and the Shinjuku Toho Building are constructed where the Shinjuku Koma Theater (demolished in 2009) once stood.
Though actual photos of these specially themed rooms are not yet available, digital renderings have been unveiled that give Godzilla fans an idea of what to expect. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for further details.
