Following Fox Searchlight Pictures' recent release date announcement for the film, it's now been announced by director Guillermo del Toro that The Shape of Water has received an R rating from the MPAA.
Del Toro announced the "R" rating news on Twitter, also going on to write that "The Shape of Water is NOT a horror movie. It's a bit of a fairy tale story - a fable set in early 1960's America."
According to multiple sources, including JoBlo, the "R" rating is for "sexual content, graphic nudity, violence, and language."
