Marvel's Ghost Rider comic book series returns with a trailer that is sure to set your curiosity ablaze. Also in today's Horror Highlights: the lineup for the 9th annual NOLA Horror Film Festival and Maury the Miserable Vampire book details.

Watch the New Ghost Rider #1 Trailer: "The devil’s bounty hunter returns! Ghost Rider streaks out of the underworld on his flaming motorcycle — with a skull to match — in an all-new ongoing series. Now, take one hell of a ride in a new trailer featuring Editor in Chief C.B. Cebulski, Assistant Editor Chris Robinson and Writer Ed Brisson!

Following his shocking accession, Johnny Blaze is now the king of the underworld! What challenges does a hero face when he presides over the worst humanity — and inhumanity — has to offer? While Blaze acts as demonic warden down below, fellow Ghost Rider Danny Ketch is tasked with collecting souls above. How does Ketch cope with being forced to serve in a role he despises?

“One thing we’re really diving into is what this really means to [the Ghost Riders’] lives,” says Brisson.

“What is the Spirit of Vengeance? Where does it come from? Why does it possess certain people and not others? What’s the mythos of the Ghost Rider character? Those are the questions that we’re going to answer in this series for fans, finally,” promises Cebulski.

Ghost Rider #1 arrives on October 2 in comic shops, on the Marvel Comics App, and on Marvel.com! To find a comic shop near you, visit www.comicshoplocator.com or call 1-888-comicbook.

NOLA Horror Film Festival Lineup Announced: "In its ninth year, NOLA Horror Film Fest is pleased to announce that this year’s festival will be held at the historic Prytania Theatre in New Orleans on September 26th-29th, 2019. This year’s official selections include 64 films and 20 screenplay finalists, chosen from 727 national and international submissions exclusively through FilmFreeway.

The NOLA Horror Film Fest is a festival created by horror filmmakers for horror fans. It’s no small wonder - and no great surprise - that so many of today’s top directors got their start in “low budget horror”. With determination and imagination, these artists have created some truly memorable work that has encouraged and inspired a new generation of filmmakers. Our goal is the promotion of Genre Filmmaking in Louisiana, as well as nationally and internationally. The NOHFF is committed to celebrating the craft and advancing the art form of Genre Films.

On the opening night of the festival, we will be screening The Black String featuring Frankie Muniz. Golden Globe nominee Frankie Muniz (2002, TV’s “Malcolm in the Middle,” Best Television Actor Musical/Comedy Series) gives a chilling performance in the thrilling horror film The Black String. Our closing night feature film presentation will be Every Time I Die, released by Gravitas Ventures.

Some of our other notable features and shorts include: To Your Last Death (featuring William Shatner, Ray Wise, and Bill Moseley), the world premiere of Cold Feet and a Louisiana produced short Samantha.

Through four days of the best horror & sci-fi programs (Features & Shorts Screenings, Panel Discussion, Special Guests and Midnight Blocks: WTF Shorts & Horror Comedy Shorts) the NOLA Horror Film Fest is going to be a weekend to remember. We have also introduced live music this year, with New Orleans based horror rock Deadsled Funeral Company performing opening night and Dead Music Capital Band from Austin, TX closing out the fest on Sunday. We encourage filmmakers, casts & crews, friends & family, and horror fans alike to experience New Orleans… from the food to the music, to the history.

Weekend Passes and Day Passes are now available for purchase online at: https://filmfreeway.com/NOLAHorrorFilmFest/tickets

Single Screening Tickets will also be available at the door for $10.

Maury the Miserable Vampire Book Details: "Maury the Miserable Vampire”, the surprise hit children’s book that has been inspiring kids across the globe to believe in themselves and to be open to learning about other cultures, is currently meeting with film and television production companies to adapt the critically acclaimed book into an animated feature-length film for theatrical or streaming.

After a wildly successful, year-long book tour of elementary schools across the country, convention appearances, store signings, and interviews, author Jeff Roland may finally be able to answer the most frequently asked question from the book’s rabid fan-base: “When will ‘Maury the Miserable Vampire’ become a movie?!”.

The book’s release was featured on IMDB News, has a 4.9 rating on Goodreads, a 5-star rating on Amazon, and has been showered with recommendations by high-traffic genre critics such as:

“Makes for an ideal late-night tale to tell your own little ghouls and goblins” - Bloody Popcorn

“No matter your child’s level of flexibility and outgoingness, I highly recommend that you invite Maury into their lives.” - Glenn Tolle, Frights For Tykes

“There’s a new fanged-face in town! Spooky parent-approved.” - Monica Keubler, Rue Morgue

“In a world where people are trying more and more to convince us that the outside world is dangerous and the people who inhabit it are our enemies, it feels good to have a story that shows the opposite to be true.” - Emily von Seele, Dead Ringers Podcast

Author Info: Jeff Roland is a former Assistant to Oliver Stone, Creative Director at Universal Studios, and entertainment copywriter/creative consultant for Think Jam and Joystick Media. “I initially created this with just the slight hope that maybe some family and friends would buy it. When sales went far beyond those expectations and I saw how kids and adults were reacting to it so positively, I was completely taken by surprise. I can tell you when you’re a life-long monster fan and suddenly your favorite genre websites, critics and even fellow fans are recommending something that you’ve created, it’s pretty surreal. Right now, we’re meeting with production companies and I’m really hoping that we find the right fit to give the book’s fans the level of cheers, laughter and highly personal takes that it gets at the live readings. There have been a few of those takeaways from kids that’s made me tear up right then and there.”

Book Synopsis: “Maury the Miserable Vampire lived in a cold, dark castle and he liked it that way. He never laughed, he never smiled, and he never went outside. When his only friend, Barry the Bat, suddenly disappears, Maury must summon the courage to set out into the world for the very first time in order to find him. Along the way, Maury meets friendly, funny monsters from across the globe and learns about other cultures, teamwork and, most importantly, the value of friendship.”

  • Tamika Jones
About the Author - Tamika Jones

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.

The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
