Independent Film Company and Shudder Acquire Sundance Body Horror SACCHARINE: "Independent Film Company and Shudder announced today that they have acquired Natalie Erika James’ supernatural body horror SACCHARINE from XYZ Films ahead of its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The film stars Midori Francis (GREY’S ANATOMY, THE SEX LIVES OF COLLEGE GIRLS), Danielle Macdonald (PATTI CAKE$), and Madeleine Madden (THE WHEEL OF TIME). Saccharine, written and directed by James, marks her third feature following her acclaimed psychological horror debut RELIC, which was distributed by IFC Midnight, and APARTMENT 7A, the prequel to ROSEMARY’S BABY starring Julia Garner. The deal includes rights in North America and the UK. SACCHARINE will have a theatrical release ahead of its Shudder debut in 2026.
SACCHARINE follows Hana (Francis), a lovelorn medical student who becomes terrorized by a sinister force after taking part in an obscure weight-loss craze: eating human ashes.
Said director Natalie Erika James, "I'm absolutely thrilled to be working with Independent Film Company and Shudder again after our experience releasing RELIC together in 2020. They're an incredible team with a deep understanding of genre and a real commitment to filmmakers."
“Natalie announced herself as a singular force with her haunting debut RELIC, a film that we were privileged to bring to audiences in 2020 via IFC Midnight,” said Emily Gotto, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Productions at Shudder. “With SACCHARINE, she returns with a chilling, utterly original vision that pierces our deepest obsessions with body image, reaffirming her work as a leading voice in genre cinema”.
SACCHARINE is a Carver Films and Thrum Films Production, financed by Screen Australia in conjunction with XYZ Films, IPR.VC, and Stan, in association with VicScreen. The film is produced by James, Anna McLeish and Sarah Shaw (producers of RUN RABBIT RUN, RELIC, SNOWTOWN). The deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto for Shudder with XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers."

THE SILENCE AFTER: "They thought the end of the world would be loud. They were wrong.
It was silent.
Watch the official trailer for The Silence After, a gripping horror/drama that proves the most terrifying monsters aren't the ones that scream.
Panic ensues when a protests turn violent, and civilians are forced into survival as a mysterious viral outbreak plunges the island into further Darkness"
About the Film
The Silence After is a Barbadian horror-drama that redefines the zombie genre through a Caribbean lens. Set on an island torn apart by the fallout of a failed medical experiment, the film explores how government secrecy, corporate greed, and broken systems can bring even the most beautiful places to their knees. At the heart of the story is a diverse local cast of first-time actors and rising talents who bring raw, emotional depth to their roles. These survivors aren’t superheroes—they’re everyday Bajans: nurses, students, security guards—thrust into a nightmare they never asked for. Their performances ground the film in real Barbadian life, culture, and dialect, offering a powerful counterpoint to the chaos unfolding around them. Shot entirely on location in Barbados, The Silence After is a grassroots production born from community, creativity, and necessity. With limited resources but a passionate team, the film was made possible through late nights, volunteer crews, and a shared vision to tell a story that speaks not just to fear, but to resilience, resistance, and the will to survive. More than just a horror film, The Silence After is a reflection on how quickly society can unravel—and who we become when it does.

Writer Brandon Atherley From a young I had a love for watching TV. Any kind of action, sci-fi, fantasy, adventure and comedy film or series. However, cartoons were my favorite. Watching them inspired and molded me into storytelling. Whether it be writing short stories for school or doing presentations in university. As I grew older my creativity soared and my mind with it, putting pencil to paper and fleshing out these ideas. Then came the turning point, and I took the opportunity to do a film workshop. It is in the workshop I learned the art of screenwriting. This was the beginning of longest, toughest, rollercoaster marathon in my life… but the most exciting, thrilling, and rewarding.
Writer /Director Stockton Miller is the Managing Director of BoardHouse Productions and a leading figure in the Barbadian film industry, with over a decade of experience in storytelling, production, and visual media.
