Jonathan Stoddard The Voices Q&A:

What drew you to this script and made The Voices stand out from other horror movies you've seen?

When I first read The Voices, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The writing and visual content of the script had me hooked, and I knew after talking with Sith and the production team that I wanted to do this movie and be a part of this project. Some horror movies build around gore and horror, but this was built around a real story of substance.

Do you enjoy watching horror movies? If so, what are some of your favorites? If not, what are some of the films that scared you when you were growing up?

I LOVE watching horror movies.

The original Candy Man was the first horror movie that ever scared me when I was a child. I love the wild world of horror and how it plays on humanity and drama and adventure and action. But, once you start stepping into psychological horror movies vs. slasher films vs. thrillers and other branches of horror movies, a new world of suspense awaits you.

What can you tell our readers about your character and the challenges he faces throughout the film?

In the movie The Voices, I play William, and I go through a rollercoaster of a ride throughout the film. Because I can't see or hear the spirits, my character is constantly torn between supporting my wife while continually worrying that she's losing her mind. Fortunately, my love and support for her as a partner ultimately leads me to face my biggest fear. You'll have to watch it to find out what that is!

What kind of paranormal research did you do to prepare for your role?

The Voices is based on "folklore," but in my research, I was able to talk to people who had real-life experiences where they were able to interact with spirits and ultimately choose who their baby would become. It is wild to accept roles like this because you never expect it to be true and open your eyes to a brand new global viewpoint. Life is pretty wild.

What was your experience like with the cast? How does filming a horror movie differ from other types of projects you've been involved with?

Working with The Voices team was incredible. Sith, the creator, and director, quickly became like a brother to me, and I consider myself lucky that I got to work with this talented group of filmmakers. Some productions just focus on getting things done and creating a product. The Voices was not a team but a family.

What was your favorite on-set moment?

I have two favorite on-set moments, and they both had nothing to do with me! (laughing) I geek out when it comes to prosthetics, horror makeup, and blood gags. At the end of The Voices, we had a very cool creature on set, and it was incredible to go toe to toe with it as an actor. My other favorite moment is when Lilly and I are sleeping, and she has a nightmare of a reverse childbirth. It is as strange as it sounds and absolutely horrifying to witness.

What projects do you have coming up that you can share with our readers?

Coming up, I have multiple movies releasing on the big screen and tv, such as Saturn (SciFi), Bone Cold (psychological horror), Lean in Love (romcom), Blowin' Smoke, Somewhere In Montana, and more. I'm excited about what's going to happen this next year!
