What if you thought you had a sure death sentence embedded in your head, only to discover that what should kill you only makes you more powerful? This compelling question is at the heart of the graphic novel Malignant Man, which the prolific writer/director James Wan helped create three years ago. Now the graphic novel is heading to the big screen, it may be Wan's next directorial effort.
Deadline reports that Fox acquired rights to Malignant Man and that Wan will be involved in developing the movie. Malignant Man was originally published as a comic books mini-series by BOOM! Studios before all issues were collected in paperback format. It was authored by James Wan and Michael Alan Nelson, with illustrations by Piotr Kowalski. Right now, this is in the very early stages of development, and it's said that Wan is eyeing this as his next directorial effort, but has not officially committed to directing. We'll keep Daily Dead readers posted on further Malignant Man details as they develop.
"Malignant Man focuses on Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis who is resigned to his fate until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite. Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society’s skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past."
James Wan has been one of the busiest people in the horror genre over the past decade. After kick-starting the Saw franchise, he introduced audiences to a new world of scares with the Insidious film series and took us back in time to get haunted in The Conjuring. Having recently handed the directing reigns of Insidious: Chapter 3 to his friend and frequent collaborator Leigh Whannell, Wan is currently directing Fast & Furious 7.
