Kodi Smit-McPhee will be reunited with director Matt Reeves for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, according to a new report. While it has been confirmed by Deadline that he's been cast in a lead role, no character details have been released. Kodi Smit-McPhee (pictured below) is probably best known for appearing in Let Me In and The Road, and also voiced the lead character in ParaNorman.

Smit-McPhee will be joined by previously announced cast members Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Andy Serkis. It was recently revealed that the new story takes place fifteen years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes:

“One focus is on the group of human scientists who are struggling to survive alone in San Francisco. Another aspect of the story is the struggle of intelligent ape Caesar, played by a returning Andy Serkis, to maintain dominance over his kingdom.”

Production is set to begin this spring and a release date has been set for May 23rd, 2014. The script was written by Mark Bomback, from a draft by Rise of the Planet of the Apes writers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa.
