When Marvel published the 12-issue Secret Wars from 1984 – 1985, the grand story arcs and presence of the mighty Beyonder had a rippling effect on multiple comic book series. Marvel recently announced that a new Secret Wars will be published in 2015, and today they debuted a video that reveals a diverse list of comic book series that will factor into a big showdown in a realm called "Battleworld."
The video announces that Secret Wars #1 will hit comic book stands in May of 2015. Jonathan Hickman will write the story and Esad Ribic will provide the artwork, with Alex Ross crafting the covers. The video states that universes have been destroyed before displaying a planet-shaped map with bordered lands resembling countries and a giant J-shaped body of water slicing its way through the countryside.
After showing us this new world, the video introduces comic book covers from popular limited series, such as Planet Hulk, Old Man Logan, and Civil War, placing each cover in a designated territory. This looks to be Marvel's way of showing fans the eclectic characters from vastly different comic book worlds will be fighters in the new Secret Wars. The video displays covers to the following comic book series:
After placing each series in a territory, the video states "Battleworld Forged" and then "The Secret Wars Commence" appears onscreen over Alex Ross' beautiful illustration of heroes fighting heroes that Marvel debuted last month. Before ending, the video shows characters like Spider-Man and The Thing spilling out of space as two worlds collide. Stay tuned for further news regarding this big upcoming limited series from Marvel.
