MGM Plans Carrie Remake

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who was responsible for writing the comic book version of The Stand (among other Marvel comics), has been hired by MGM to work on a remake of Stephen King's Carrie. The original film was released in 1976 and stars Sissy Spacek as a telekinetic girl is picked on by her classmates and lashes out during her school prom.

Both MGM and Screen Gems are working together on this project, and Deadline has reported that Aguirre-Sacasa's version will be more faithful to the Stephen King novel than the original film. For those that have not read the book, the events after the prom are very different from the film version.

This is still in the very early planning stages, so a director and release date have not yet been set. We'll report more information on this project as it becomes available.
