There have been many attempts to bring Mortal Kombat back to the big screen, but the success of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries has finally convinced New Line to move forward with a new movie.

According to a report at THR, New Line has hired Kevin Tancharoen, creator/director of Mortal: Kombat Legacy, to direct a new Mortal Kombat film. Oren Uziel has also been hired to write the script for the new movie. He was previously involved as the writer for the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth pitch video that resulted in the full webseries.

The report reveals that the movie is only at the development stages at his point, so no actors have been cast. They also noted that the movie's story will not be an extension of the webseries, but we'd imagine the new movie to follow a similar tone and we wouldn't be surprised to see the return of some of the actors from the webseries.  Mortal Kombat: Legacy will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on November 8th.
