Showtime announced today that filming on the long-awaited new epsiodes of Twin Peaks—a continuation of the groundbreaking CBS series from David Lynch and Mark Frost—is slated to begin this September.
Showtime made the announcement via a "damn fine cup of coffee" image on Twitter (see images below).
According to Collider, at today's TCA panel, Showtime Network President David Nevins mentioned that David Lynch will direct all episodes from the new season of Twin Peaks, which will comprise at least nine episodes—all of which will be written by Lynch and Frost:
“It became clear that it was going to take more than nine episodes, which was the originally planned for and budgeted length of the series. I really wanted to get David to direct the whole thing, and he wanted to direct the whole thing. We had to work out the details.”
Nevins also touched briefly on what viewers can expect from the latest Twin Peaks chapter:
"There’s certain basic questions that I had at the end of the original three seasons given where Agent Cooper is, and I think those questions get answered.”
It's still not known if the return of Twin Peaks will still take place in 2016 as originally planned (before behind-the-scenes and out-in-the-open negotiations took place), but Nevins is hopeful that it will and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated on further announcements regarding the treasured show's revival.
