October 2019 VOD & Digital Releases Include LITTLE MONSTERS, IN THE TALL GRASS, MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN, TRICK, 3 FROM HELL

Happy (nearly) October, everyone! We finally made it to our favorite month and to help you get into the Halloween mood, we have a brand new batch of horror and sci-fi VOD and digital releases coming over the next four weeks that should keep you busy as we inch our way closer towards October 31st. Things kick off in a big way on the 1st, with Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining in 4K making its way to a variety of platforms.

Just a few days later, the latest installment of Into the Dark hits Hulu on the 4th, and the very same day, the latest from Vincenzo Natali—Into the Tall Grass, which is based on a story by Stephen King and Joe Hill—arrives on Netflix. And as if that wasn’t enough, Alien fans should be sure to check out Memory: The Origins of Alien documentary when it hits VOD and digital providers on October 4th as well.

Then, Rob Grant’s Harpoon arrives on the 8th (which looks FANTASTIC), followed up by Brad Anderson’s Fractured on Netflix and the absolutely delightful Little Monsters on Hulu, hitting their respective platforms on October 11th. Rob Zombie fans can check out 3 From Hell on the 15th when it makes its digital debut, and just in time for Halloween, Patrick Lussier’s Trick arrives, featuring the likes of Omar Epps, Jamie Kennedy, and the legendary Tom Atkins.

Finally, October’s VOD and digital releases wrap up with JD Dillard’s Sweetheart, Tone-Deaf, The Gallows Act II, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark on the 22nd, Travis Stevens’ Girl on the Third Floor on the 25th, and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged bringing the month’s releases home on the 29th.

Devil’s Revenge (Cleopatra Entertainment) – October 1st

In DEVIL’S REVENGE, a down-on-his-luck archaeologist returns from a cave expedition that contains a cursed relic that’s also a portal to Hell. He discovers that the only way to stop the curse on his family is to go back to the cave and destroy the relic.

Encounter (Vega Baby Releasing) – October 1st

When an otherworldly organism crash lands on Earth, a group of grief-stricken friends led by Luke Hemsworth (“Westworld”), Anna Hutchison (THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) and Tom Atkins (HALLOWEEN III), must overcome a recent tragedy and face their fear of the unknown to uncover the unimaginable secret the alien holds. But with the FBI closing in, time is running out.

Halloween in a Box (Indie Rights) – October 1st

For years, Ben Cooper costumes were a Halloween institution dating back to the 1930s. But in 1982 at the height of their popularity, the first case of domestic terrorism shook the U.S. in the form of the Chicago Tylenol murders and threatened to cancel Halloween forever. In an effort to save the holiday, the costume giants, although rivals in the business, were forced to come together and unify or trick-or-treating would become extinct.

Karma (Cinetel Films) – October 1st

When recent college graduate Manny has trouble making ends meet, his father-in-law offers him a job evicting delinquent tenants. Manny soon finds himself unleashing a karma demon which stalks him at every turn.

Once Upon a Time in Deadwood (Uncork’d Entertainment) – October 1st

ONCE UPON A TIME IN DEADWOOD concerns a notorious gunslinger who is slipped a slow-acting poison by an heiress and told he has three days to track down and rescue her sister, who has been kidnapped by a band of hoodlums and holds the antidote. Rene Perez directs from his screenplay, with Jeff Miller (THE TOYBOX) also contributing.

Replace (Uncork’d Entertainment) – October 1st

Afflicted with a dermatological disease, young and beautiful Kira discovers that she can replace her skin with that of other girls. Helped by her lover, she plots a murder and the victim becomes her donor, but when the disease returns, she is forced to find more victims.

The Shining 4K (Warner Bros. Home Entertainment) – October 1st

Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) becomes the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado, hoping to cure his writer's block. He settles in along with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and his son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who is plagued by psychic premonitions. As Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's visions become more disturbing, Jack discovers the hotel's dark secrets and begins to unravel into a homicidal maniac hell-bent on terrorizing his family.

In the Tall Grass (Netflix) – October 4th ** Exclusively on Netflix**

When siblings Becky and Cal hear the cries of a young boy lost within a field of tall grass, they venture in to rescue him, only to become ensnared themselves by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them. Cut off from the world and unable to escape the field’s tightening grip, they soon discover that the only thing worse than getting lost is being found. Based on the novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill.

Into the Dark: Uncanny Annie (Hulu/Blumhouse) – October 4th **Exclusively on Hulu**

On Halloween night a group of college students get trapped in a mysterious board game that brings their darkest secrets and fears to life, where they must play to escape...and win to survive.

Memory: The Origins of Alien (Legion M) – October 4th

MEMORY: THE ORIGINS OF ALIEN takes hardcore ALIEN fans and newbies alike on a fascinating exploration of the mythical underpinnings of the film, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The documentary is supported by exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, unearthing the largely untold origin story behind Ridley Scott's cinematic masterpiece, and reveals a treasure trove of never-before-seen materials from the archives of ALIEN creators Dan O'Bannon and H.R. Giger - including original story notes, rejected designs and storyboards, and O’Bannon’s original 29 page script from 1971, titled "Memory."

Harpoon (Epic Pictures) – October 8th

Rivalries, dark secrets, and sexual tension emerge when three best friends find themselves stranded on a yacht in the middle of the ocean desperate for survival.

Along Came the Devil 2 (Gravitas Ventures) – October 11th

After receiving an unsettling voicemail, Jordan returns home, looking for answers, only to find her estranged father and even more questions. A demonic force has attached itself to the town and no one is safe. The only one who seems to know anything is the small town's Reverend.

The Dead Center (Arrow Films) – October 11th

When a very dead suicide victim (Jeremy Childs, Preacher, Nashville) disappears from the morgue, it sets in motion a chain of events that has the power to immolate everything, and everyone, it touches. Troubled psychiatrist Daniel Forrester (Shane Carruth, Primer, Upstream Color) is drawn to help a mysterious patient who is brought to the emergency psych ward in a catatonic state with no memory of how he reached the hospital. As if to exorcise his own demons, the doctor feverishly tries to break through to his mysterious patient. But as a spate of mysterious deaths shake the ward to its core, Forrester comes to suspect that there is more to his new ward than meets the eye. As he comes to realize what he’s unleashed, a desperate race against the forces of evil threatens to swallow him whole.

Driving home after a tense holiday weekend with his in-laws, Ray Monroe (Sam Worthington), a well-meaning but overwhelmed family man, pulls into a rest area with his wife Joanne (Lily Rabe) and daughter Peri (Lucy Capri). The trip takes a turn for the worse when Peri is hurt in an accident and the family rushes to a nearby emergency room run by a staff with dubious intentions. After being sent away for further testing Peri and Joanne vanish and all records of their visit disappear. Ray’s concern turns into a desperate race to find his family and discover the truth of what happened to them.

Dave (ALEXANDER ENGLAND), a washed-up musician, volunteers to chaperone his nephew's kindergarten field trip after taking a shine to the plucky schoolteacher, Miss Caroline (LUPITA NYONG’O) Dave’s intentions are complicated by the presence of world-famous child entertainer and competitor for Miss Caroline’s affections, Teddy McGiggle (JOSH GAD). One thing none of them bargained for, however, is a sudden zombie outbreak from which Dave and Miss Caroline must protect the children.

Mary (RLJE Films) – October 11th

David (Academy Award Winner Gary Oldman) is a struggling blue-collar captain looking to make a better life for his family. Strangely drawn to an abandoned ship that is up for auction, David impulsively buys the boat, believing it will be his family’s ticket to happiness and prosperity. But soon after they embark on their maiden journey, strange and frightening events begin to terrorize David and his family, causing them to turn on one another and doubt their own sanity. With tensions high, the ship drifts off course, and it becomes horrifyingly clear that they are being lured to an even greater evil out at sea.

3 From Hell (Lionsgate) – October 15th

First there was House of 1000 Corpses. Then there was The Devil’s Rejects. Now, from writer-director Rob Zombie, comes the next blood-soaked chapter in the most violent crime saga in movie history — 3 From Hell. After barely surviving a furious shootout with the police, Baby Firefly (Sheri Moon Zombie), Otis Driftwood (Bill Moseley), and Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) are behind bars. Crawl (Paramount Home Entertainment) – On Demand on October 15th

As a hurricane tears through Florida, Haley (Kaya Scodelario) rushes to find her father (Barry Pepper), who is injured and trapped in the crawl space of their home.  With the storm intensifying and water levels rising, the pair face an even bigger threat lurking below the surface.

The Drone (Lionsgate) – October 15th

This terrifying, outrageous tale takes flight as a serial killer is struck by lightning while holding his precious drone. Weeks later, the drone shows up at the home of newlywed couple Chris (John Brotherton, The Conjuring) and Rachel (Alex Essoe, Starry Eyes). Without them realizing it, the drone films the couple and takes control of their TV, computer, security system, and car. Soon Chris and Rachel fear that the device may be connected to them… and is out for horrific, hovering revenge.

Gothic Harvest (Cinedigm) – October 15th

GOTHIC HARVEST tells the chilling tale of four co-eds who head to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. When one of them disappears after connecting with a charming local, her friends race to find her before she falls victim to a sadistic Southern family plagued by a centuries-old voodoo curse.

Greener Grass (IFC Midnight) – October 18th

In a day-glo-colored, bizarro version of suburbia where adults wear braces on their already-straight teeth, everyone drives golf carts, and children magically turn into golden retrievers, soccer moms and best friends Jill (Jocelyn DeBoer) and Lisa (Dawn Luebbe) are locked in a passive aggressive battle-of-the-wills that takes a turn into the sinister when Lisa begins systematically taking over every aspect of Jill’s life—starting with her newborn daughter. Meanwhile, a psycho yoga teacher killer is on the loose, Jill’s husband (Beck Bennett) has developed a curious taste for pool water, and Lisa is pregnant with a soccer ball. That’s just the tip of the gloriously weird iceberg that is the feature debut from writers-directors Jocelyn DeBoer and Dawn Luebbe, a hilariously demented, Stepford Wives-on-acid satire destined to be an instant cult classic.

Trick (RLJE Films) – October 18th

From the director of MY BLOODY VALENTINE and DRIVE ANGRY comes the next chapter of Halloween horror. When a small town is visited every Halloween by a masked madman, Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps) will stop at nothing to discover who he is and how to stop him. 

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (Lionsgate) – October 22nd

It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley, where for generations the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time. For a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home, the stories become all too real in this spine-tingling film.

Sweetheart (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment) – October 22nd

Jenn finds herself completely alone on a small tropical island after her boat goes down. By day, every ounce of her strength, cunning, and courage is strained simply to find food, outlast the elements, and survive. But as the sun sets, Jenn’s waking nightmare inexorably grows into terror, when a malevolent force comes to stalk the jungle for prey. From Blumhouse, producers of GET OUT and THE PURGE franchise, comes a thrilling twist on the castaway genre.

Tone-Deaf (Lionsgate) – October 22nd

After being dumped by both her boss and her boyfriend, Olive (Amanda Crew) flees the city for the weekend and rents an ornate country house from an old-fashioned widower named Harvey (Robert Patrick). She’s hoping for a few days of peace. What she gets is a weekend of sheer terror, as Olive awakens Harvey’s darkest urges—and is plunged into a blood-soaked fight for her life.

The Gallows Act II (Lionsgate) – October 22nd

After Auna Rue, a teenage vlogger/aspiring actress, logs onto a sinister website, she’s soon trapped in the malevolent world of a cursed stage play, The Gallows. After performing a passage from the play for her tiny online fan base, Auna instantly achieves the stardom she seeks—as well as a twisted challenge from a deadly spirit (The Hangman) in this nightmarish supernatural thriller from the company that brought you Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

Girl on the Third Floor (Dark Sky Films) – October 25th

Bursting pipes, rotting walls, and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (WWE legend Phil "CM Punk" Brooks) expected when he convinced his wife, Liz (Trieste Kelly Dunn), that he could rehab their new Victorian home himself. In over his head, under duress, and tempted by his old weaknesses, Don soon discovers that the house has its own dark, sordid history and won't be so easy to renovate after all....

47 Meters Down: Uncaged (Lionsgate) – October 29th

Directed by Johannes Roberts and written by Roberts and Ernest Riera, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged follows the diving adventure of four teenage girls exploring a submerged Mayan city. Once inside, their rush of excitement turns into a jolt of terror as they discover the sunken ruins are a hunting ground for deadly great white sharks. With their air supply steadily dwindling, the friends must navigate the underwater labyrinth of claustrophobic caves and eerie tunnels in search of a way out of their watery hell.
