Come Out and Play was directed by the mysterious masked director Makinov, and is based on the 1976 Spanish horror film, El Juego De Niños. The movie is now available on VOD and digital services, and I was given the opportunity to submit a handful of questions to Makinov for a Q&A feature.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with Daily Dead. You've said in the past that cinema should teach us about pain. Why did you feel that updating El Juego De Niños was the project you should move forward with as your first film and lesson on pain?
Makinov: Real change is painful and this film is about it. A revolution is happening unexpected. Children are taking over violently, youth being preserved by a sort of abortion of adulthood. What happens in the film is the seed of utopia, Beth and Francis the sacrificial lambs, the offering to the Gods of revolution.
We live in a world where anonymity is becoming increasingly difficult. What effect did your choice to wear a mask during production have on the cast and crew? As a filmmaker, how did the mask help you achieve your vision for the film?
Makinov: It made it confusing for everybody and somehow more open to the unexpected and the strange methods I used to achieve what I needed. Anonymity is in this age essential to freedom.
In your previously released manifesto, you spoke about your hate for cell phones and society's confusion at what really matters. How do you balance that belief with the fact that Come Out and Play is available on VOD and digital services, with many people watching the movie on phones, tablets, and laptops?
Makinov: I do what I do. I live naturally, without using money or any technology. I didn’t choose what would happen to my film, but I find it really interesting that I might change someone’s mind.
With Come Out and Play now available in the US and around the world, do you have a new project already lined up? If so, what can you tell us about it?
Makinov: I want to make erotic movies now, I feel there’s a void where there used to be good f***s.
For some people who have been following Come Out and Play, learning your identity is part of what keeps people searching for news. Now that your first film has been released, will we learn more about the man behind the mask?
Makinov: I hope not.

As you can tell from the answers above, we don't get too much information out Makinov, aside from some minor details on his next project and the effect his mask had on the cast & crew. Whether the mask and his beliefs were something created to bring more attention to the movie or it's the real deal remains to be seen, but we're curious to see what happens with his next project.
Come Out and Play opens in select theaters on March 22nd and is currently available on iTunes and VOD. We've included the official trailer and his manifesto video below.
