Prepare for potential zombie dogs, Netflix users, because a Resident Evil series is reportedly in development at the streaming service.

Deadline reports that a "scripted series" based on the Resident Evil franchise is in the works at Constantin Film, with the series planned to be a "Netflix global original."

According to Deadline, the Resident Evil series "will explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus." The potential show would also "expand the Resident Evil universe and deepen the exiting mythology." Details on the showrunner, writer, director, and cast have yet to be revealed.

Capcom's Resident Evil video game franchise kicked off in 1996, and a new version of Resident Evil 2 was just released, taking gamers back into the zombie-infested streets of Raccoon City.

Currently comprised of six films, the Resident Evil movie franchise kicked off in 2002 with Paul W. S. Anderson directing and Milla Jovovich starring as Alice, a highly skilled survivor and former employee of the sinister Umbrella Corporation, which unleashed a zombie apocalypse that put humankind on the brink of extinction. Jovovich would go on to star in all five sequels, the last of which came out in 2016.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter grossed $312 million globally, so it's not surprising that Constantin Film, the production company behind all six of the Resident Evil movies (four of which were directed by Anderson) is eager to move forward on a new series.

The company is also developing a Resident Evil movie reboot and recently hired Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night) to write and direct the film. With a Resident Evil series now reportedly in the works at Netflix, it's not certain if the movie (which was expected to begin production this year) will still be moving forward, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated as more information makes its way from The Hive to the surface.
