Any time Guillermo del Toro is working on a new project, people are going to assume that Ron Perlman is at least being considered for a role. Ron Perlman's involvement was rumored while del Toro was working on The Hobbit and as soon as it was announced that del Toro was directing Pacific Rim.

During a recent interview, Guillermo del Toro was talking about his new movie and casually mentioned Ron Perlman's name in the cast list:

"We are working with actors that I absolutely adore. Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman. It’s really, it’s a very, very beautiful poem to giant monsters. Giant monsters versus giant robots. Twenty-five-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters. We’re trying to create a world in which the characters are real and how it would affect our world politically, how it would affect the landscape if creatures like this really came out of the sea, etc."

Shooting on Pacific Rim started this week, but we'll have a bit of a wait before we see giant monsters fighting giant robots on the big screen. Pacific Rim is scheduled for release on May 10th, 2013.
