Screen Gems acquires Devil May Cry

Variety has revealed that Screen Gems purchased the rights to develop films based off of the popular Devil May Cry video game series:

"Kyle Ward has been hired to pen the script, which revolves around the character of Dante, who avenges his mother's murder by killing off demons."

Screen Gems is no stranger to video game properties, having been responsible for all of the Resident Evil films, along with the Underworld series and the upcoming Priest adaptation. This film is at a very early stage of development, so it is a bit too early for any director or casting information.

It is unknown how close this will stay to the game's story, but given how far the first Resident Evil film was from the game, it is safe to assume that Capcom has no problem with a new take on the material.
