For those who grew up watching the original Star Wars trilogy, it’s hard to believe that we’re likely to get one Star Wars movie per year for the foreseeable future, beginning with next year's Star Wars film from J. J. Abrams. The title for the follow-up to 1983's Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi has now been officially revealed, letting fans know that they can write Star Wars: The Force Awakens on their calendars.
On the official Star Wars Twitter page, the new title for Episode VII was unveiled along with the announcement that principal photography on the film has wrapped. Star Wars: The Force Awakens will come out in theaters on December 18th, 2015.
From Disney and Lucasfilm, the movie stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, all of whom join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker from the original saga.
J. J. Abrams directs off a screenplay he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan. Kathleen Kennedy, Abrams, and Bryan Burk produce the project, with John Williams once again on the conductor's podium. We have a look at the new space floating title below (via the official Star Wars Facebook page):
