Summit Entertainment has hired a writer to take on Exorcism Diaries, an upcoming film project said to be inspired by the book "The Real Story Behind The Exorcist." Barbara Marshall (Terra Nova, Peste) will be writing the script, according to Deadline, with Roy Lee, Sonny Mallhi and Doug Davison producing.

The book from Mark Opsasnick has him investigating horror legends around Washington, D.C., including the true story that inspired The Exorcist, UFO abduction, and other ghost stories. Since Exorcism Diaries is said to be "inspired" by this book, we're assuming that the project will focus on someone investigating a variety of exorcism cases.

There are no specifics coming from Summit at this time, so we'll report back as soon as more information on this project becomes available.
