Fans of Joe Dante's 1989 horror comedy, The ’Burbs, will be pleased to know that the Tom Hanks-starring film is finally available on Blu-ray in the US exclusively at Best Buy, with a wide high-def home media release scheduled for this August.

Blu-ray.com reports that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has released The ’Burbs on Blu-ray in the US, at long last rewarding the years of patience compiled by fans of the film living in the US who have been unable to watch Arrow Video's UK steelbook release that came out in 2014.

Right now the US Blu-ray is only available in Best Buy stores and on the company's official website, but a wide release is scheduled for Tuesday, August 16th. According to Blu-ray.comThe ’Burbs Blu-ray will come with the same special features included on the 1999 DVD:

  • "Alternate Ending
  • Production Notes
  • Cast and Filmmakers
  • Theatrical Trailer"

Stay tuned to Daily Dead for more updates. In the meantime, will you be rushing to the nearest Best Buy to add The ’Burbs to your movie collection? For those unfamiliar with The ’Burbs, we have the film's official synopsis and trailer, as well as a look at the Blu-ray cover art that is similar to the movie's theatrical poster:

Synopsis: "Tom Hanks stars in The 'Burbs, a comedy about a suburbanite whose plans for a peaceful vacation at home are disturbed by a creepy new family on the block. Much to the disappointment of his wife Carol (Carrie Fisher) for spending a relaxing week at home, Ray Peterson (Hanks) and his three neighbors set out to investigate the next door residence after they begin to observe strange happenings. Set in an average neighborhood that is anything but ordinary, The 'Burbs blends slapstick comedy and spine-thrilling mystery with the type of humor that has made Tom Hanks one of today's most beloved stars."
