According to a new report, the first new character from The Walking Dead Season 4 may have been revealed. Continue reading to learn more about this character, and find out why we're a bit skeptical. It's also been announced that some of the Season 3 actors have been promoted to series regulars.
TVLine reported that AMC issued a casting call for a series regular role. The character name is Roy Stark, and they are looking for an actor in his 30s to mid-40s. According to the call sheet, the character is described as a "former army medic who is deeply haunted by his past — pre- and post-zombie apocalypse. As a result, he’s a bit of a loner, although he maintains a charming/self-deprecating/confident public face."
We have no doubt that the TVLine report is legitimate, but it's very likely that the casting call details are fake on purpose. Lew Temple and Vincent M. Ward both said in recent interviews that they did not know who they were going to play when they originally tried out for their Season 3 roles. They were both provided with fake character names.
There's no character named Roy Stark in the comic book series, so there are fans that think it could be Abraham, a major character from the comic book series, due to the army mention. However, that is only a guess at this point, and it's less likely given the fact that specific actors were sought for the bigger roles of The Governor and Tyreese. Abraham has the potential to be a big part of the TV series and we're thinking the producers will go after specific actors to try out for the role.
In other Season 4 cast news, Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green, and Emily Kinney have been promoted to "series regular" status, according to Deadline. While it means that they will be featured prominently in Season 4, the "series regular" status does not mean that they cannot be killed. For those that missed the news earlier this week, it was also confirmed that David Morrissey signed on for Season 4 as a series regular. Previously, he had only committed to a single season of The Walking Dead.
The Walking Dead Season 4 begins filming in May and we'll have much more information at this year's San Diego Comic-Con in July. Catch up on our recent coverage by visiting the following links:
