Although there have been rumors floating around for the last few days that Tobe Hooper's Djinn may have been shelved, the first trailer has been released today. Tobe Hooper filmed the movie last year in the UAE for Imagenation Abu Dhabi.

Reports last weekend suggested that Abu Dhabi's royal family had seen the movie and were not happy with the portrayal of the UAE. Apparently they had the movie shelved, but Imagenation has issued a statement claiming that the movie is still on track and will be released later this year. We'll be sure to update this story when more information is made available.

“The film is set in 2015 and follows the story of Khaled and Salama, a couple who return home from America to discover their apartment in a luxury high-rise, built on the site of the deserted fishing village, is also home to malevolent beings."
