With the success Marvel is having with their movies and Disney about to release a Star Wars movie a year for the foreseeable future, a number of other studios are looking to follow that strategy. Sony is trying to do something similar with Spider-Man and it has been revealed that Universal is interested in relaunching their Universal Monsters.

According to Deadline, the plan is to develop new interconnected movies featuring Universal's popular monsters that will take place in the same cinematic world. In charge of setting up this new world is Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Chris Moran (Fast & Furious series).

Dracula Untold will not likely be part of this plan, but the movie's box office success will probably be the deciding factor. First up should be the planned reboot of The Mummy, which is slated for a 2016 release. It's unknown how involved Kurtzman and Moran will be on the development of the individual movies, but the report said that they will be "enlisting talent to bring new cinematic life to these characters." While no names have been mentioned, I hope that names like Guillermo del Toro and Ben Wheatley are on the top of their list. We'll let Daily Dead readers know as soon as more details become available.
