In a surprise move, Annabelle Comes Home will actually be arriving in theaters tonight instead of the usual Thursday evening early release, which makes the timing perfect to hear from the sequel’s director and writer, Gary Dauberman, about the latest installment of the Annabelle series.

Dauberman is no stranger to the world of The Conjuring films, as he’s written the scripts for both of the previous Annabelle movies in addition to Annabelle Comes Home, and he also handled writing duties on The Nun and produced both The Curse of La Llorona and The Nun as well. And as if all of that wasn’t impressive enough, Dauberman has also worked on the scripts for both of the IT screenplays and is credited as the co-creator of the recent Swamp Thing series (based on the character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson).

During the recent press day for Annabelle Comes Home, Dauberman discussed why the timing felt right for him to make the jump into directing with this sequel, and his thoughts on how the concepts of the film felt like a great way for him to mix things up a bit with Annabelle Comes Home. Dauberman also talked about how the endless prospects tucked away inside of the Warrens’ artifact room excited him from a directing perspective and not just from a writing standpoint, and how there were even more evils he wanted to tap into here, but thought they might be better served in future films.

Check out our video interview with Gary Dauberman below, and look for Annabelle Comes Home to haunt theaters everywhere later tonight.
