Vin Diesel has been keeping us updated on the status of Riddick with frequent Facebook updates. Today, comes word that the movie will begin filming in the very near future, and he also shared a new piece of concept art.

"One of many Necro-armor designs... Haha, I had to share.

It takes hundreds of artists to make a movie... I am excited about the work Our "Riddick" crew of artists, are doing right now in Canada. Their contributions is what will make this film.

P.s. Riddick starts principal photography in weeks... much to do, much to do... especially since it's "R"...

GRRR..."

With Riddick filming this year, we should have a number of casting announcements in the coming weeks. David Twohy, director of the first two "Riddick" films, is also back in the director's chair for the third installment. We're including the leaked plot synopsis that was posted back in May below, but keep in mind that story elements may have changed between then and now:

"Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction."
