Weekend Box Office Update

Rise of the Planet of the Apes easily took the top spot this weekend earning $54 million. Its weekend total is higher than expected due to positive word of mouth and critical response. Cowboys and Aliens may have won last week, but it only earned $15 million, taking third place this weekend.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon held on to the tenth spot, bringing its domestic total to $344 million. Next week's big genre release is Final Destination 5, which is also making its debut on IMAX 3D. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

4.  The Change-Up - $13,502,000
5.  Captain America: The First Avenger - $13,000,000
6.  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 - $12,160,000
7.  Crazy, Stupid, Love. - $12,100,000
8.  Friends with Benefits - $4,700,000
9.  Horrible Bosses - $4,620,000
10. Transformers: Dark of the Moon - $3,015,000
