2011/12/11 21:55:00 +00:00 | Jonathan James

It was a disappointing weekend at the box office. New Year's Eve took the top spot, but only managed to earn $13.7 million. The Sitter also disappointed, although it was not completely unexpected for the R-rated comedy. Immortals continues to hang out in the top 10 and has brought its domestic gross to $79.8 million.

Next weekend starts the big event film releases for the holidays, along with films that studios are trying to push for the Oscar race. Next week's releases include Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and the limited release of Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel.
