Weekend Box Office Update

2012/04/29 20:02:35 +00:00 | Jonathan James

This was a pretty slow weekend at the box office. None of the top 10 films were able to break $20 million and Think Like a Man once again held onto the top spot. What's impressive about that movie is that it's doing so well in so few theaters. It has a national theater count of 2,015 and is averaging almost $9,000 per screen. In comparison, The Pirates! Band of Misfits opened in 3,358 screens with an average of $3,395.

This week's horror opening was The Raven, which earned $7.25 million. It isn't terrible considering a low theater count and a $26 million budget, but it definitely isn't a success either. The Cabin in the Woods continues to hang in there and earned $4.5 million, bringing its total to $34.6 million.

Next week's box office results will look a lot different when The Avengers opens in 4,000+ screens across the country. Given the positive reviews and big overseas box office numbers, we should have some interesting results to talk about. Here are the top 10 results for this weekend:

1. Think Like a Man - $18,400,000
2. Pirates! Band of Misfits - $11,400,000
3. The Lucky One - $11,325,000
4. The Hunger Games - $11,250,000
5. The Five-Year Engagement - $11,157,000
6. Safe - $7,720,000
7. The Raven - $7,250,000
8. Chimpanzee - $5,460,000
9. The Three Stooges - $5,400,000
10. Cabin in the Woods - $4,500,000
