Weekend Box Office Update

2013/03/17 16:35:52 +00:00 | Jonathan James

After its huge opening last weekend, it was no surprise to learn that Oz The Great and Powerful took the top spot once again, as there was no real competition from new releases. Oz brought in an estimated $42 million over the weekend and has earned a total of $145 million since opening. The Call may not have stood a chance against Oz, but it earned a respectable $17 million. The movie was produced for an estimated $13 million and opened on only 2,500 screens.

None of the other movies on the top ten had terribly impressive results this weekend, including new release The Incredible Burt Wonderstone. With that being said, any extra money is a bonus for Identity Thief and Silver Linings Playbook, both of which crossed the $120 million mark this week.

Next week sees the release of Olympus Has Fallen, The Croods, and Admission. Here are the top ten results for this weekend:

1. Oz The Great and Powerful - 42,222,000
2. The Call - $17,100,000
3. The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - $10,305,000
4. Jack the Giant Slayer - $6,220,000
5. Identity Thief - $4,519,000
6. Snitch - $3,500,000
7. 21 and Over - $2,619,000
8. Silver Linings Playbook - $2,587,000
9. Safe Haven - $2,495,000
10. Escape From Planet Earth -$2,327,000
