Making the rounds for Ex Machina, Alex Garland offered an update on 28 Months Later, the potential third film of the Rage virus series Garland helped create back in 2002, when Danny Boyle brought his 28 Days Later screenplay to life on the big screen.

Talking to The Playlist, Garland said that around two years ago, an idea for where to take the 28 franchise popped into his head:

"I had a funny idea. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I'd taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don't want to work on it. I don't really want to play a role, and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] said, 'Leave it to me.' So he's gone off and is working on it.”

Macdonald produced both 28 Days Later and its sequel, 28 Weeks Later, so he's very familiar with the frightening franchise. Garland wrote the former and executive produced the latter, which ended on a bit of a cliffhanger that has left many viewers wanting more since its initial 2007 release.

No further details on 28 Months Later are known at this time, but Garland's comments bolster his tease of a third 28 movie back in January, when he revealed that it could possibly happen. We'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on any new details regarding 28 Months Later.
