If you were holed up in a cabin with your loved one during the apocalypse, what horrors would you find outside your long unopened door? That's the question at the heart of writer/director Ben Wagner's latest film, Dead Within, which Millennium Entertainment recently picked up.

A release date has not yet been set for this psychological horror film, but we'll let Daily Dead readers know when one is determined. To get real results out of his actors, Ben Wagner filmed the movie in the tradition of The Blair Witch Project, placing stars Amy Cale Peterson and Dean Chekvala (both of whom helped write the script) in a real locked cabin wherein they had no idea what horror the filmmakers would throw at them. In addition to the film, a prequel comic illustrated by artist Alfonso Ruiz will soon be available, perhaps expanding on the apocalyptic events that led the film's two stars to seek refuge in the isolated cabin. Right now we have the full plot details of Dead Within for you to check out, as well as variant poster art and a look at the upcoming prequel comic book:

Los Angeles, CA (June 24, 2014) — "Millennium Entertainment announced they have acquired U.S. rights to Ben Wagner’s (Southbounders) psychological horror film DEAD WITHIN. SC Films will distribute the film internationally. “Dead Within” stars Amy Cale Peterson (Southbounders) and Dean Chekvala ("True Blood", People Like Us). Wagner, Peterson, Chekvala and Matthew Bradford wrote the script. The thriller will be released on all entertainment platforms this fall.

Set six months after a deadly outbreak that has all but ended the human race, a man and woman have survived by isolating themselves in a remote cabin and never opening the door. Now, they don't have a choice. Starved for resources, they must confront the horrors that threaten them…but what's inside may be even more toxic than what remains outside. DEAD WITHIN was filmed as an immersive experience, with the actors locked in a cabin throughout the duration of filming, completely unaware of what scares would be thrown their way. The film was produced by Wagner’s company 3:41am and Aengus James and Colin King Miller’s (American Harmony) This Is Just a Test Productions.

Filmmaker Ben Wagner says “the primal fear of an invader just outside the door expanded into a story of a couple trapped by the choices that had kept them alive, despite losing everyone and everything around them. We created a world that twists genre conventions we know and love – suspense, fear of the unknown, mindbending thrills, jolting horror – to tell a universal story about trust and survival.”

ICM Partners negotiated the domestic and international deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
