The Marvel universe continues to grow on both the small and big screen, as Marvel announced at Comic-Con today a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series, which should please fans of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Racoon, and the rest of the intergalactic gang of galaxy protectors.

Very little details have been uncovered so far, but Deadline reports that Marvel did confirm that the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series will air on Disney XD. A 1-minute teaser video of the series was also shown to Comic-Con attendees in Room 6BCF, with the footage featuring Guardians like Rocket Racoon and Sky-Lord.

The announcement came from a panel comprised of Marvel Animation VP Stephen Wacker, SVP Eric Radomski, VP Cort Lane, and Fred “the voice of Hulk” Tatasciore from the animated series, Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. The Guardians of the Galaxy feature film hits theaters on August 1st, and there's no word yet on whether or not the movie's actors would voice the animated series' characters, or if the film's co-writer/director James Gunn would have any involvement, but we'll keep Daily Dead readers updated on this series as it develops.

Directed by James Gunn and written by Gunn and Nicole Perlman based off the comic book by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou as Korath, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, and Glenn Close as Nova Prime, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, and Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket Racoon.

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the blanace.
