Razor Reel Flanders Film Festival 2016 Winners and Runner-Ups: Press Release: "Bruges, Belgium - November 15, 2016 - Prior to ending its 9th consecutive edition with a closing night screening of Sang-ho Yeon’s action-packed TRAIN TO BUSAN the Razor Reel Flanders Film Festival announced the winners of both its feature and short film competitions. In the former category, reserved for directorial debuts or sophomore films, THE TRANSFIGURATION took home the Young Blood Award.
Michael O’Shea’s novel merger of vampire mythology and inner-city social realism came out of nowhere when it premiered at Cannes. Since its Un Certain Regard surprise debut earlier this year the film has steadily built up a strong reputation on the festival circuit, driven by its oddly beguiling sense of minimalism and a strong turn by male lead Eric Ruffin.
SAM WAS HERE, a Twilight Zone inspired debut from French filmmaker Christophe De Roo, received a special mention as the runner-up in the international feature film competition. The Audience Award went to Adam Tsuei’s THE TENANTS DOWNSTAIRS. An adaptation of novelist Gidden Ko’s novel of the same name, director Tsuei’s debut is, at heart, a black comedy that indulges in an eclectic array of subgenres to deliver a stylistically sound homage to perversion. In terms of audience appreciation, the first runner-up was Carles Torrens’ twisted romance PET.
The Méliès d’Argent competition saw seven European shorts go head to head, with Gary Roberts’ THE PROBLEMLESS ANONYMOUS being the recipient of the top prize.
Over a total of 6 days, audiences at Razor Reel 2016 were treated to 27 feature films and 30 shorts from all corners of the world, with The United States, Sweden, Macedonia, Germany, Japan and Taiwan, being among the contributing countries. During its 9th edition, the Cinema Liberty welcomed over 20 guests to the historic city center of Bruges.
Razor Reel is thankful to all filmmakers who shared their works and wishes to thank its dedicated volunteers, sponsors and film enthusiasts without whom the festival could not exist.
Your attendance and kindness were greatly appreciated. Hope to see you next year, at Razor Reel 2017."

Moggy Creatures Q&A with Director Scott Frazelle: "The trailer for Scott Frazelle’s Moggy Creatures recently went online ahead of the film’s Kickstarter (launching in January). We speak to the filmmaker about his plans for the killer cat flick.
What have you got against cats, Scott?
Nothing! I'm scared of them, if anything. They're incredible little murder machines, apex predators that have shrunken down over years of evolution, but possibly through a concentrated effort to get small enough to lull us into a sense of security. Ever notice how many cats there are, just everywhere? If its a numbers game, we're already at a loss.
Was there a version of this project that didn’t include cats but some other animal?
I was wondering if anyone had heard about the first iteration, working titled Moggy Hamsters. Ever been swarmed by hamsters? It's terrifying. Plus, they stink.
What’s the storyline?
"A troubled couple hoping to rebuild their relationship accept a stray cat into their lives, only to have it spawn evil monsters." This couple, Michael and Anna, have been through an emotional wringer, and a new pet seems like a proper distraction and something to focus some good on. But the cat gives birth to a litter of kittens, and that's where it gets weird. The kittens exhibit strange behavior from the start, and we soon learn they are the manifestation of extreme grief. They soon mutate into unrecognizable monsters, and threaten the lives of everyone involved. Then it gets bloody.
Please tell me we’re not going to see cats eating people – don’t you know that’s everyone’s worst nightmare!?
I cannot tell you that. But I am glad to hear its everyone's worst nightmare. That's the basis of the scare factor in this film, when something you know becomes something you don't. Everyone knows how intimidating an angry or rabid cat can be. I'm going to brush up against that subject in ways that aren't expected. You'll never look at your cat the same way again.
Do you believe cats are loyal!?.. at all?
Cats are the most pragmatic of creatures; when you're taking care of their needs in a way they enjoy it, they're great. Mess with that formula, and you pay the price.
You’re kicking off a Kickstarter to finance the film – when’s that going to be?
We're going to start crowd-funding in January 2017. Based on the reactions I've had to the trailer, I'm confident we can raise significant first-money in, then find an appropriate investor or producing partner to help us bring the quality necessary to this project. I'm adamant about doing this the right way and make a creature feature with great practical FX and the appropriate fright factor. Anyone who's interested in the progression of the project can go to our website, moggycreatures.com, and sign up for the newsletter. I love feedback and answering questions.
By this time next year do you hope to have a finished film?
My goal is to have this film premiere on Halloween 2017. I have lean-and-mean work ethic on the set and for projects in general, and having already done some proof of concept footage, I'm confident it can be done. If not, it'll be a great stocking-stuffer for the holidays."

Tamika hails from North Beach, Maryland, a tiny town inches from the Chesapeake Bay.She knew she wanted to be an actor after reciting a soliloquy by Sojourner Truth in front of her entire fifth grade class. Since then, she's appeared in over 20 film and television projects. In addition to acting, Tamika is the Indie Spotlight manager for Daily Dead, where she brings readers news on independent horror projects every weekend.
The first horror film Tamika watched was Child's Play. Being eight years old at the time, she remembers being so scared when Chucky came to life that she projectile vomited. It's tough for her to choose only one movie as her favorite horror film, so she picked two: Nosferatu and The Stepford Wives (1975).
